Program Manager

The Perfect Candidate: 

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Program Management, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of program management experience, ideally within the non-profit or environmental sector. Must have a valid Driver’s License, and be based within the Sea-to-sky corridor to conduct field work as required.

Skills:

  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to develop and execute complex program plans.

Responsibilities Include: 

The Program Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the execution of several of AWARE’s projects and programs including (but not limited to) food security, youth education and engagement and active transportation.

  • GROW – A community greenhouse and garden initiative that helps residents grow their own organic food while strengthening local food security and reducing climate impacts. The program also donates high demand, nutrient dense produce to the Whistler Food Bank and fosters social connection through shared learning and volunteerism. The Program Manager will explore ways to make the program more inclusive to people of all backgrounds and demographics by identifying and reducing barriers to participation.
  • Young Voices, Big Impact – This program empowers Sea to Sky youth to take an active role in local climate action through experiential learning, advocacy and volunteering opportunities. The Program Manager will develop and grow this relatively new program into something truly inspiring and impactful for local youth.
  • School Education Workshops – Workshops teach students in grades 4, 7, and 10 how waste impacts the environment and what actions they can take to reduce it.
  • Go By Bike Week – A biannual campaign encouraging residents to swap car trips for bike rides which builds momentum for broader low-carbon transportation engagement.
  • Additionally, the Program Manager will lead volunteers, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure high levels of program accountability and performance.

Executive Director

Executive Director

AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residences for the Environment) is seeking an inspiring and strategic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact.  The Executive Director is the key management leader of AWARE, responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, strategic plan, community engagement, and fundraising efforts. Resilience and Migrant Worker Support Coordinator

What is being on the board all about?
The board meets 6 times per year, plus their annual general meeting and a strategic planning session. As part of being a board member, you will also join a committee in an area of interest. Right now, they are hoping for someone who is keen to take part in granting. General expectations of the board is to be familiar with the foundation’s programs and policies and participate in the thoughtful review of policies and policy changes. Participate in the development and implementation of the strategic plan. This involves attending a one-day planning session, usually taking place in September and then taking on small tasks throughout the year. And, serve as an ambassador for the foundation in the Community.

The Perfect Candidate:

  • 2+ years experience in a leadership position managing teams with administrative and HR abilities.
  • Experience with business operations including financial management and budgets.
  • A caring individual who is able to manage a safe and happy childcare environment.
  • Positive influence and natural motivator who inspires teachers to create high-quality programming and works well in a team oriented environment.
  • Actively works to resolve conflict, maintain trust and build
    strong working relationships.
  • Responsible Adult certification is required (or be able to begin the course upon being hired).
  • ECE certified, IT and Special Needs certifications is an asset.
  • Childcare First Aid & CPR, and other routine emergency treatments.
  • Clear Criminal Record check.
  • Minimum one-year experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with financial training or background in a non-profit environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the Centre.
  • Oversee the programs offered in the Centre and ensure a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Support the teaching staff throughout the Centre as well as in the classroom.
  • Work alongside the Assistant Manager to ensure ongoing coaching for childcare staff, employees and volunteers.
  • Ensure that financial administration is managed effectively.
  • Work well with the Board of Directors to achieve future goals.
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of materials and supplies.
