AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment) is looking for an Executive Director to lead the organization in advancing its role as the steward for the environment in Whistler and surrounding areas.

About the Role, Benefits & Perks:

  • Initially part-time working 20 hours per week with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position.
  • $40 to $55 per hour based on experience with room for growth; open to negotiations.
  • Annual incentives and bonuses can be further discussed.

  • The position is supported by a very active and hands on Board of Directors a small contingent of staff and large population of seasonal workers and volunteers.

The Perfect Candidate: 

  • 3+ years of experience working for non-profit organizations with a strong commitment for, and background in, community engagement.
  • A passion for nature and environment.
  • Excellent people skills to manage and align the diversity of AWARE’s multiple relationships (staff, funders, government, business, members, etc.).
  • Leadership experience with a drive to mentor, lead and guide.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Business acumen and some understanding and experience in fundraising and funder alignment.
  • Strategic thinking with ability to develop and execute longer term plans.
  • Open and transparent working style with a strong ethic for getting things done.
  • Digital marketing and social media experience is an asset.
  • Willingness and experience working closely and collaboratively with a Board of Directors.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Execute strategy aimed at safeguarding habitat, biodiversity, and wilderness values and to engaging and empowering our community to build a sustainable and climate resilient future.
  • Oversee development of diverse funding and revenue generation opportunities, and manage AWARE for financial health.
  • Develop strong “hands on” working relationships with all stakeholders (government, membership, business community, intersecting interest groups.
  • Lead formulation of communications strategy and develop innovative ideas for widening the reach of AWARE in the community.
  • Provide training and leadership for staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee the execution of operations and program planning.
