The Perfect Candidate: 

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Program Management, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of program management experience, ideally within the non-profit or environmental sector. Must have a valid Driver’s License, and be based within the Sea-to-sky corridor to conduct field work as required.

Skills:

Responsibilities Include: 

The Program Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the execution of several of AWARE’s projects and programs including (but not limited to) food security, youth education and engagement and active transportation.

  • GROW – A community greenhouse and garden initiative that helps residents grow their own organic food while strengthening local food security and reducing climate impacts. The program also donates high demand, nutrient dense produce to the Whistler Food Bank and fosters social connection through shared learning and volunteerism. The Program Manager will explore ways to make the program more inclusive to people of all backgrounds and demographics by identifying and reducing barriers to participation.
  • Young Voices, Big Impact – This program empowers Sea to Sky youth to take an active role in local climate action through experiential learning, advocacy and volunteering opportunities. The Program Manager will develop and grow this relatively new program into something truly inspiring and impactful for local youth.
  • School Education Workshops – Workshops teach students in grades 4, 7, and 10 how waste impacts the environment and what actions they can take to reduce it.
  • Go By Bike Week – A biannual campaign encouraging residents to swap car trips for bike rides which builds momentum for broader low-carbon transportation engagement.
  • Additionally, the Program Manager will lead volunteers, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure high levels of program accountability and performance.

  • Full financal and business acumen with an understanding of non-profit operational structures.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Program Management, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, and be based within the Sea-to-sky corridor. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams of up to 8 staff and 15 contract staff, directing the day-to-day operations of the organization. 
  • Participate with the Board of Directors in executing the strategic plan and guiding annnual operational planning.
  • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.
  • Accountable for the recruitment, management and ongoing development of employees and knowledge philanthropists.
  • Ensure the financial health of the organization;  work with staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing a budget; ensuring that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  • Stakeholder relations, advocacy and engagement; build strong working relationships.
  • Promotes and represents the organization in the community and acts as primary spokesperson for the organization.
  • Risk management; informs the Board of any risks or significant changes to the organization and advises on trends and issues – internal & external.
  • Leading/overseeing the formulation of communications strategy and developing ideas for widening the reach of AWARE within the community.
  • Accountable for overseeing consistent organizational communications and marketing for programs, services, and media opportunities.   Sign off on any public communications, grant applications and fundraising communications.

The Athlete Coordinator will work:

  • To connect athletes with Whistler Adaptive Sports Programs

Specific Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Conduct intake of athletes and participants as well as assist with the creation of individualized recreational and sport plans.
    Implement and maintain the current athlete customer relationship management (CRM) and other software as needed.
  • Maintain athlete profiles with accurate athlete reporting, athlete registration files, yearly waivers, media releases and other program-related administration.
  • Conduct regular program surveys.
    Administer accompany ticket requests and requests for Adaptive Seasons Pass’.
    Manage bursary coordination (but not limited to) with individuals and families.
  • Provide athlete invoicing to bookkeeper and follow up with accounts receivables in a timely manner.
  • Support the team with fundraising efforts as directed by the Executive Director.

Program Operations:

  • Work with Coaches and the Volunteer Coordinator to plan, schedule and facilitate weekly, monthly and seasonal programming.
  • Assist with scheduling and facilitating seasonal camps.
  • Coordinate individuals to participate in community programs with WAS ‘buddies’.
  • Act as the liaison for local and visiting athletes and their families.
  • Maintain relationships with athletes, families and related community organizations.
    Maintain regular communications with WAS program participants.
  • Coordinate equipment rentals for athletes.
    Ensure a safe and inviting environment for active participants and athletes.
  • Adhere to all safety operating procedures.
    Foster a strong culture of health and safety

Risk Management:

  • Ensure WAS safety protocols and quality of delivering programs is maintained.
  • Work with Whistler Adaptive staff to ensure that all WorkSafeBC requirements are met.
