Website Audain Art Museum

The Museum Shop & Admissions Manager for the Audain Art Museum is responsible for driving earned revenue through retail, general membership and ticketing, delivering an exceptional visitor experience, and overseeing the Visitor Services team. This role directs all aspects of retail strategy including product development, purchasing, inventory, pricing, merchandising and e-commerce, while also managing staffing, service standards and daily admissions operations.

The Perfect Candidate: 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and occasional travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years professional experience in retail and/or cultural institution operations.
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a management role leading teams, budgets, and operational planning.
  • Strong background in purchasing, merchandising, inventory management and vendor relations.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop front-line and supervisory staff in a customer-facing environment.

Responsibilities Include: 

Retail & Earned Revenue Leadership

  • Develop and manage the Museum Shop budget, revenue targets, and financial performance.
  • Lead strategic planning for retail, admissions and general membership operations to maximize earned revenue and visitor engagement.
  • Analyze and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and systems that improve efficiency, profitability and customer experience.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop integrated promotional strategies for in-store, e-commerce, print and digital channels.

Visitor Services Management

  • Manage and supervise front-of-house operations including admissions, retail and Visitor Services staff.
  • Develop, implement and maintain staffing plans, policies and procedures for all front-of-house and retail operations.
  • Recruitment, hiring, training, coaching and scheduling of Visitor Services team, ensuring a high level of customer service.
  • Create and implement incentive and recognition programs that support sales, service excellence and staff engagement.

Merchandising, Buying & Inventory Management

  • Curate and manage a diverse product mix in partnership with over 100 BC artists, makers, galleries and the BC Craft Council.
  • Lead all product development, buying, pricing, inventory control and vendor relations.
  • Oversee visual merchandising, floor plans, signage and display standards to ensure an engaging and commercially effective retail environment.
  • Manage inventory systems, stock levels and reporting to minimize shrinkage and maximize profitability.
  • Oversee e-commerce operations and integration with in-store inventory and sales.

Gala Silent Auction Management

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the Silent Auction for the annual Gala fundraising event.
  • Manage planning, administration, donor communications, item intake, pricing and auction execution.
  • Liaise with the Chief Development Officer, Gala Committee, donors and volunteers.
