The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program is a not-for-profit charity committed to creating inclusive opportunities for individuals with disabilities and neurodiversities. They believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the freedom, joy, and connection that comes from sports, recreation, and outdoor adventure in the Sea to Sky corridor.
WAS offers multiple different sports programs, between Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish, and are currently looking for both Adaptive Swim Instructors and Adaptive Snowsports Instructors to join their team.
ADAPTIVE SNOWSPORTS INSTRUCTORS
The Adaptive Snowsports Instructors are responsible for teaching adaptive ski/snowboard lessons utilising approved CADS teaching methodology, whilst ensuring quality and safe adaptive lessons. Under the supervision of the Head Coach of Whistler Adaptive.
About the Role, Benefits & Perks:
- Whistler, BC.
- Full-time & Part-time work available.
- 3 positions – 5 days a week.
- 1 position – 3 days a week.
- Mid December 2025 – March 31st 2026.
- End date may be extended if available.
- $22.50-25.50/hr + commensurate on experience and certifications.
- Season Pass for Whistler Blackcomb.
- Training opportunities for CADS certifications.
The Perfect Candidate:
- Advanced skiing or riding abilities.
- Strong ability to adapt teaching methods.
- CSIA or CASI certifications or international equivalent (Minimum Level 1).
- CADS certifications or international equivalent teaching adaptive skiers an asset.
- Mandatory background check.
- First aid certification.
- Strong team member with willingness to use initiative, collaborate and problem solve.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teach a variety of adaptive ski or snowboard lessons for the WAS Alpine Program.
- Communication with WAS athletes and their families pertaining to weekly lessons.
- Support the Program Coordinator with communication and positive engagement with volunteers assigned to alpine lessons.
- Attend all required pre -season training and ongoing training during the season.
- Keep daily attendance and reports of lessons.
- Assist with raising awareness of WAS and being an ambassador on the mountain.
- Equipment maintenance and care as required.
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
- Required to work outdoors in Winter conditions.
- Work can be both physically and emotionally challenging working with diverse populations.
- Weekend work essential part of role.
ADAPTIVE SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Swimming is a life-saving skill and a source of joy, confidence, and independence. Seeking a compassionate and skilled Adaptive Swim Instructor to join their team, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Reporting to the Lead Coach in Squamish lessons will be delivered at Brennan Park Squamish.
About the Role, Benefits & Perks:
- Whistler, BC.
- Part-time, casual.
- 4hrs/week.
- $23-$26 hr based on experience.
- Applications Close: September 30th, 2025.
- Must be a Canadian Resident or hold a valid Work Permit.
The Perfect Candidate:
- Experienced and skilled swimmer.
- Previous experience instructing swim lessons for individuals with disabilities and neurodiversities is an asset.
- Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment.
- First Aid certification is required.
One or more of the following certifications is required:
- Lifesaving society of Canada Swimming Instructor Certification.
- Swim Canada Community Coach Certification and/or higher level of Swim Canada NCCP Certifications.
- Special Olympics Competition Sport Coaching Certification.
- Or equivalent international experience and/or certification.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teach adaptive swim lessons to individuals with physical disabilities and neurodiversities in a ‘one on one’ or group setting.
- Customize lesson plans to meet each participant’s unique needs, goals, and comfort levels.
- Ensure the safety of all participants in and around the water.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, and caregivers.
- Work with assigned volunteers to deliver lessons.
- Foster an encouraging and inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress reports, and program documentation..
- Collaborate with Lead Coach in Squamish and Program Coordinator.
- Adhere to safe operating procedures as per WAS polices and Brennan Park
