Are you looking to move away from the traditional Chef role within hospitality with late nights and jump into a position with lots of growth potential?  A local elementary school in Whistler is looking for a Chef to cook for and manage their hot lunch program.

Offering $30 to $35 per hour to start, an ideal daytime schedule plus the opportunity to bring your creativity for menu design and potentially run cooking classes for students.

The Perfect Candidate: 

  • 2+ years experience as a Cook or Chef is preferred.
  • Culinary education is an asset but not required.
  • Experience running a kitchen including inventory management, ordering and food costing, budgeting and menu creation.
  • Motivated, self-starter who is looking for an opportunity to grow into a full-time position and potentially carry out programming for students (ie: cooking classes).
  • Creative, organized and good with details.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work under pressure, handle many different tasks at once.
  • Create a positive work environment in the kitchen.
  • Must have food safe certification.
  • Must successfully complete or provide an existing criminal background check.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Prepare daily meals for the hot lunch program.
  • Plan menus and make sure food meets quality standards.
  • Inventory management and supply ordering.
  • Estimate food needs and/or estimate food and labour costs.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff.
  • Working with and training volunteers.
